Rules Relating To Marrying In The Catholic Church
If you intend to marry in the Catholic church there are a number of rules that apply. Firstly, as with all marriage in Ireland, you must register your intention to marry with The Regsistrar (details HERE).
Once you decide to marry you should contact the Parish Priest of the church in which you wish to marry to make an appointment with him to check dates and discuss your forthcoming marriage.
~ You will be required to fill a Pre-Nuptial Enquiry Form ~ sample one HERE.
~ You will need to complete a pre-marriage course. You can check availability and book online HERE.
~ You will be required to furnish the Priest with the following:
1. BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE (from the parish in which you were baptised)
2. CONFIRMATION CERTIFICATE (from the parish in which you were confirmed)
3. LETTER OF FREEDOM (a letter from the Priest of each parish in which you lived for more than six months since you were 18 confirming you never married there).
